1884-1970. French Radical politician. As 
prime minister Apr 1938-Mar 1940, he was 
largely responsible both for the Munich 
Agreement (by which the Sudeten districts of 
Czechoslovakia were ceded to Germany) and 
France's declaration of war on Germany. 
Arrested on the fall of France, he was a 
prisoner in Germany 1943-45. He was 
re-elected to the Chamber of Deputies 
1946-58.
