1907-1989. British novelist, whose romantic
fiction includes Jamaica Inn 1936, Rebecca
1938, and My Cousin Rachel 1951. Her short
story `The Birds' was made into a film by
Alfred Hitchcock 1963. She is the
granddaughter of George Du Maurier.
