1400-1474. Flemmish composer. He is
recognized as the foremost composer of his
time, of both secular songs and sacred music
(including 84 songs and eight masses). His
work marks a transiton between the music of
the Middle Ages and that of the Renaissance
and is characterized by expressive melodies
and rich harmonies.
