1820-1897. English ceramicist. He developed
special wares for the chemical, electrical,
and building industries, and established the
world's first stoneware drainpipe factory
1846. From 1870 he created art pottery and
domestic tablewares in Lambeth, S London, and
Burslem, near Stoke-on-Trent.
