1905-1958. English actor of Anglo-Polish
parentage. He started out in the theatre and
made one film in Hollywood (The Count of
Monte Cristo 1934), his other films include
Alfred Hitchcock's The Thirty-Nine Steps
1935, Goodbye, Mr Chips 1939 for which he won
an Academy Award, and The Winslow Boy 1948.
