1937- . Spanish tenor who excels in romantic
operatic roles. A member of a musical family,
he emigrated with them to Mexico in 1950. He
made his debut in 1960 as Alfredo in Verdi's
La Traviata, then spent four years with the
Israel National Opera. He sang at the New
York City Opera in 1965 and has since
performed diverse roles in opera houses
worldwide. In 1986 he starred in the film
version of Otello.
