Plant Mercurialis perennis of the family
Euphorbiaceae. Dog's mercury carpets woodland
floors in patches of a single sex. Male
flowers are small, greenish yellow, and held
on upright spike above the leaves. Female
flowers droop below the upper leaves. Leaves
are oval and light green. It is found across
Europe. It grows to 30 cm/1 ft.
