1872-1946. Russian general. He distinguished 
himself in the Russo-Japanese War 1904-05 and 
World War I. After the outbreak of the 
Bolshevik Revolution 1917 he organized a 
volunteer army of 60,000 Whites 
(counter-revolutionaries), but in 1919 was 
routed and escaped to France. He wrote a 
history of the Revolution and the Civil War.
