of the third circumnavigation of the world.
He sailed in July 1586, touched Brazil,
sailed down the coast to Patagonia, passed
through the Straits of Magellan, and returned
to Britain via the Philippines, the Cape of
Good Hope, and St Helena, reaching Plymouth
after two years and 50 days.
