1625-1712. Italian-French astronomer, who
discovered four moons of Saturn and the gap
in the rings of Saturn now called the Cassini
division. Born in Italy, he became director
of the Paris Observatory in 1671. His son,
grandson, and great-grandson in turn became
directors of the Paris Observatory.
