1827-1875. French sculptor whose lively
naturalistic subjects include La Danse
1865-69 for the Opera, Paris. Another example
is the Neapolitan Fisherboy 1858 (Louvre,
Paris). The Romantic charm of his work belies
his admiration of Michelangelo. He studied in
Italy 1856-62 and won the Prix de Rome
scholarship 1854.
