1697-1768. Italian painter celebrated for his
paintings of views (vedute) of Venice (his
native city) and of the river Thames and
London 1746-56. Much of his work is very
detailed and precise, with a warm light and a
sparkling of tiny highlights on the green
waters of canals and rivers. His later style
became clumsier and more static.
