Administrative headquarters of Gwynedd, N
Wales, situated on the SW shore of the Menai
Strait; population (1981) 10,000. Formerly a
Roman station, it is now a market town and
port. The first Prince of Wales (later Edward
II) was born in Caernarvon Castle; Edward
VIII was invested here 1911 and Prince
Charles 1969.
