scenes, seascapes, and portraits. His
idyllically peaceful landscapes are bathed in
golden light: for example, A Herdsman with
Cows by a River (c. 1650 National Gallery,
London). His father, Jacob Gerritsz Cuyp
(1594-1652), was also a landscape and
portrait painter.
