1904-1977. US film actor and singer, who
achieved world success with his distinctive
style of crooning in such songs as `Pennies
from Heaven', and `White Christmas' featured
in films of the same names. He won an acting
Oscar for Going My Way 1944, and made a
series of `road' film comedies with Dorothy
Lamour and Bob Hope, the last being Road to
Hong Kong 1962.
