1752-1797. British landscape painter, a
watercolourist, whose Romantic views of
Europe, painted on tours in the 1770s and
1780s, influenced both Thomas Girtin and J M
W Turner. His father,
Alexander Cozens (c. 1717-86), also a
landscape painter, taught drawing at Eton
public school and produced books on landscape
drawing.
