1779-1854. French dancer and choreographer of
Italian descent. He made his debut as a
dancer in 1802. He choreographed Le Diable
boiteux 1836 for the Austrian ballerina Fanny
Elssler, Giselle 1841 and La Peri 1843 for
the Italian ballerina Grisi; and many other
well-known ballets.
