1882-1969. Russian critic and poet. The
leading authority on the 19th century Russian
poet Nekrasov, he was also an expert on the
Russian language, as in for example Zhivoi
kak zhizn/A Life as Life 1963. He was also
beloved as `Grandpa' Kornei Chukovsky for his
nonsense poems which owe much to the English
nursery rhymes and nonsense verse that he
admired.
