English independent school for boys, known as
the Blue Coat school after the blue gown
which forms part of the boys' dress. Founded
in 1552, it moved from Newgate Street,
London, to Horsham, Sussex, in 1902. There is
a girls' school in Hertford which belongs to
the same foundation. The English writers
Coleridge and Lamb were educated at Christ's
Hospital.
