up his workshop in St Martin's Lane, London
1753. His book The Gentleman and Cabinet
Maker's Director 1754, was a significant
contribution to furniture design. He favoured
Louis XVI, Chinese, Gothic, and Neo-Classical
styles, and worked mainly in mahogany.
