1760-1842. Italian composer. His first opera
Quinto Fabio 1779 was produced at
Alessandria. In 1784 he went to London and
became composer to King George III, but from
1788 he lived in Paris, where he produced a
number of dramatic works including Medee
1797, Les Deux Journees 1800, and the ballet
Anacreon 1803. After 1809 he devoted himself
largely to church music.
