1936- . US basketball player, who set a record by averaging 50.4 points a game during the 1962 season, and was the only man to score 100 points in a game. He was known as `Wilt the Stilt' because of his height 2.16 m/7 ft 1 1/8 in. He played professionally for the Philadelphia Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Lakers, and briefly for the Harlem Globetrotters. Playing against the New York Knickerbockers 1962 he became the only man to score 100 points in a National Basketball Association (NBA) game. He was the only centre to lead the league in assists. He led the league in scoring 1960-66, was NBA Most Valuable Player 1960, 1966-68, and retired 1973 after a 13-year career.
