1914- . US novelist, born in St Louis,
Missouri. He `dropped out' and, as part of
the beat generation, wrote Junkie 1953, The
Naked Lunch 1959, The Soft Machine 1961, and
Dead Fingers Talk 1963. Later novels include
Queer 1986.
