1792-1829. Irish murderer. He and his partner
William Hare, living in Edinburgh, dug up the
dead to sell for dissection. They increased
their supplies by murdering at least 15
people. Burke was hanged on the evidence of
Hare. Hare is said to have died a beggar in
London in the 1860s.
