1870-1953. Russian writer, author of
Derevnya/The Village 1910, which tells of the
passing of peasant life; and Gospodin iz San
Frantsisko/The Gentleman from San Francisco
1916 (about the death of a millionaire on
Capri), for which he received a Nobel prize
in 1933. He was also a poet and translated
Byron into Russian.
