1906-1945. German Lutheran theologian and
opponent of Nazism. Involved in an
anti-Hitler plot, he was executed by the
Nazis in Flossenburg concentration camp. His
Letters and Papers from Prison 1953 became
the textbook of modern radical theology,
advocating the idea of a `religionless'
Christianity.
