1822-1899. French animal painter. Her
realistic animal portraits include Horse Fair
1853
(Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York). She
exhibited at the Paris Salon every year from
1841, and received international awards. In
1894 she became the first woman Officer of
the Legion d'Honneur.
