1878-1946. German soldier and Nazi politician, minister of defence 1933-35, minister of war, and head of the Wehrmacht (army) 1935-38 under Hitler's chancellorship. He was discredited by his marriage to a prostitute and dismissed in Jan 1938, enabling Hitler to exercise more direct control over the armed forces. In spite of his removal from office, Blomberg was put on trial for war crimes in 1946 at Nuremberg.
