Adam, Robert 1728-1792.
Scottish architect and interior decorator,
leader of the British Neo-Classical revival.
In the interiors of Harewood House, Luton
Hoo, Syon House, Osterley Park and others, he
employed delicate stucco decoration with
Neo-Classical motifs. With his brother, James
Adam (1732-94), also an architect, he
speculatively developed the Adelphi near
Charing Cross, London, largely rebuilt 1936.
