Achebe, Chinua 1930- .
Nigerian novelist, whose themes include the
social and political impact of European
colonialism on African people, and the
problems of newly independent African
nations. His first novel, Things Fall Apart
1958, was widely acclaimed; Anthills of the
Savannah 1987, set in a fictional African
country, won the Nobel Prize for Literature
in 1989.
