A group of elements in the periodic table of
the elements - group II or IIa: beryllium
(Be), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), strontium
(Sr), barium (Ba), and radium (Ra). All the
elements are metallic but none occurs free in
nature. They and their compounds are used to
make alloys, oxidizers, and drying agents.
