Allenby, Henry Hynman, 1st Viscount Allenby
1861-1936.
British field marshal. In World War I he
served in France before taking command in
1917-19 of the British forces in the Middle
East. His defeat of the Turkish forces at
Megiddo in Palestine in Sept 1918 was
followed almost at once by the capitulation
of Turkey. He was high commissioner in Egypt
1919-35.
