Allen, Woody. Adopted name of Allen Stewart
Konigsberg 1935- . US film director and
actor, known for his cynical, witty, often
self-deprecating parody and off-beat humour.
His films include Sleeper 1973, Annie Hall
1977 (for which he won three Academy Awards),
and Hannah and her Sisters 1986, all of which
he directed, wrote, and appeared in. From the
late 1970s, Allen has mixed his output of
comedies with straight dramas, such as
Interiors 1978 and Another Woman 1988, but
Crimes and Misdeamenours 1990 broke with
tradition by combining humour and straight
drama.
