Albee, Edward 1928- . US playwright. His internationally performed plays are associated with the Theatre of the Absurd and include The Zoo Story 1960, The American Dream 1961, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? 1962 (his most successful play, it was filmed with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton as the quarrelling, alcoholic, academic couple in 1966), and Tiny Alice 1965. A Delicate Balance 1966 and Seascape 1975 won Pulitzer prizes.
