Abdullah, ibn Hussein 1882-1951.
King of Jordan from 1946. He worked with the
British guerrilla leader T E Lawrence in the
Arab revolt of World War I. Abdullah became
king of Transjordan 1946; on the
incorporation of Arab Palestine (after the
1948-49 Arab-Israeli War) he renamed the
country the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. He
was assassinated.
