Bettelheim, Bruno 1903-1990. Austrian child
psychologist. Imprisoned at Dachau and
Buchenwald concentration camps for two years
1933-35, he emigrated to the USA in 1939
where he founded a treatment centre for
autistic children based on the principle of a
supportive home environment. His books
include Love is Not Enough 1950, The Uses of
Enchantment 1976, and A Good Enough Parent
1987. He took his own life.
