Best, George 1946- . Irish footballer. He won two League championship medals and was a member of the Manchester United side that won the European Cup in 1968. Born in Belfast, he joined Manchester United as a youth and made his debut at 17; seven months later he made his international debut for Northern Ireland. Trouble with managers, fellow players, and the media led to his early retirement.
