Berkeley, Busby. Stage name of William
Berkeley Enos. 1895-1976. US choreographer
and film director. He was famous for his
ingenious and extravagant sets, choreography,
and costumes. After he choreographed more
than 20 Broadway musicals, producer Samuel
Goldwyn engaged him for the musical film
Whoopee 1930. His musical extravaganzas
include the films Gold Diggers of 1933 and
Footlight Parade 1933, where dozens of
dancers are filmed from above and the sides,
creating patterns with movement and costume,
giving the appearance of a kaleidoscope.
