Bergson, Henri 1859-1941. French philosopher
who believed that time, change, and
development were the essence of reality. He
thought that time was not a succession of
distinct and separate instants but a
continuous process in which one period merged
imperceptibly into the next. Nobel Prize for
Literature 1928.
