Bellow, Saul 1915- . US novelist of Russian
descent, born in Canada, who settled in
Chicago with his family in 1924. His works
include the picaresque The Adventures of
Augie March 1953, the philosophically
speculative Herzog 1964, Humboldt's Gift
1975, The Dean's December 1982, and The
Bellarosa Connection 1989. Nobel Prize for
Literature 1976.
