Bidault, Georges 1899-1983. French politician. As a leader of the Movement Republicaine Populaire, he held office as prime minister and foreign minister in a number of unstable administrations of 1944-54. In 1962 he became head of the Organisation de l'Armee Secrete (OAS), formed 1961 by French settlers devoted to perpetuating their own rule in Algeria. He was charged with treason in 1963 and left the country, but was allowed to return in 1968.
