Beeching, Richard, Baron 1913-1985.
British scientist and administrator. He was
chair of the British Railways Board 1963-65,
producing the controversial Beeching Report
1963 planning concentration on intercity
passenger traffic and a freight system, at
the cost of closing many rural and branch
lines.
