1. Beecher, Lyman 1775-1863. Congregational
and Presbyterian minister, one of the most
influential pulpit orators of his time. As a
pastor in Connecticut and Boston, he preached
against Unitarianism and Roman Catholicism
and contributed to the development of the New
Haven theology of evangelical Calvinism. He
was the father of Harriet Beecher Stowe and
Henry Ward Beecher.

2. US Presbyterian minister, one of the most
popular pulpit orators of his time. He was
the father of Harriet Beecher Stowe and Henry
Ward Beecher. As pastor from 1847 of Plymouth
church, Brooklyn, New York, he was a leader
in the movement for the abolition of slavery.
