Beadle, George Wells 1903-1989. US biologist.
Born in Wahoo, Nebraska, he was professor of
biology at the California Institute of
Technology 1946-61. In 1958 he shared a Nobel
prize with Edward L Tatum for his work in
biochemical genetics, forming the
`one-gene-one-enzyme' hypothesis (a single
gene codes for a single kind of enzyme).
