Bathory, Stephen 1533-1586. King of Poland,
elected by a diet convened in 1575 and
crowned in 1576. Bathory succeeded in driving
the Russian troops of Ivan the Terrible out
of his country. His military successes
brought potential conflicts with Sweden, but
he died before these developed.
