Baskerville, John 1706-1775. English printer
and typographer, who experimented in casting
types from 1750 onwards. The Baskerville
typeface is named after him. He manufactured
fine printing paper and inks, and in 1756
published a quarto edition of the Classical
poet Virgil, which was followed by 54 highly
crafted books.
