Pompey (against Caesar) in the civil war.
Pardoned by Caesar and raised to high office
by him, he nevertheless plotted Caesar's
assassination to restore the purity of the
Republic. Brutus committed suicide when he
was defeated (with Cassius) by Mark Antony,
Caesar's lieutenant, at Philippi 42 BC.
