1778-1840. British dandy and leader of
fashion. He introduced long trousers as
conventional day and evening wear for men. A
friend of the Prince of Wales, the future
George IV, he later quarrelled with him, and
was driven by gambling losses to exile in
France in 1816 and died in an asylum.
