1592-1632. French adventurer and explorer. He
travelled with Champlain to the New World in
1608 and settled in Quebec, where he lived
with the Algonquin Indians. He explored the
Great Lakes and travelled as far south as
Chesapeake Bay. Returning north, he was
killed and eaten by Huron Indians.
