Baader, Andreas 1943-1977. West German extreme left-wing guerrilla. A former student activist, he formed, with Ulrike Meinhof, the Rote Armee Fraktion/Red Army Faction, an urban guerrilla organization that carried out a succession of terrorist acts in West Germany during the 1970s. Sentenced to life imprisonment in Apr 1977, he took his own life in Oct, following the failure of the Faction's hostage-swap attempt at Mogadishu airport.
